KUANTAN: More than 3,000 people joined a poetry recital programme which was jointly organised by Berita Harian and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) at the university's sports complex in Gambang, near here, on Monday.

Entitled "Apakah Dosaku?" (What is my sin?), the programme was part of the "Malam Puisi Riong" poetry recital series which gathers people from different backgrounds to share their experiences and opinions on current issues through poems and songs.

Among those who recited their poems were UMP vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim and Berita Harian group editor Datuk Mior Kamarul Shahid, while Imam Muda winner Muhammad Asyraf Mohd Ridzuan read a poem written by Associate Professor Lim Swee Tin.

Launched by Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, the poem recital programme was held to highlight social problems particularly baby dumping.

It was supported by the Higher Education Ministry, UMP Women Association and UMP Student Representatives Council.
